India wants to see peaceful election in Bangladesh

Shawdesh Desk:

India has said they, as a close friend and partner of Bangladesh, want to see “peaceful elections” here as the country is set to hold its 12th national election on January 7, 2024.

“We will continue to support Bangladesh’s vision to build a stable, peaceful and progressive nation,” said Spokesperson at the Ministry of External Affairs Arindam Bagchi in a weekly briefing in New Delhi on Friday.

He said their position has been consistent and reiterated that the election is a domestic matter of Bangladesh and it is for the people of Bangladesh to decide their own future.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen recently said they want a continuation of the democratic trend in the country and do not want the destruction of democracy.

“We do not want terrorism. These are the goals of the Western countries. We are with them,” he said.

He said they want to demonstrate that Bangladesh can hold a free, fair and acceptable election. “We are the only country where people sacrificed their lives for democracy.”
